Wait on the LORD: be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart;
wait, I say, on the LORD.

"Talking Together" 10/05/09
(We will interrupt our next sermon installment of Pastor Steve Wuori's sermon from the 18th chapter of Matthew)

Dear brother/sister in Christ

This weekend it was our privilege to have with us Pastor Dale Niskanen from Negaunee, Michigan as our guest speaker. The Lord answered the many prayers that had come before His throne of grace concerning His blessing upon these services in that we heard the voice of the Good Shepherd speaking unto our souls as our brother preached and taught the Holy Scriptures. We remember the particular texts that he spoke from: Friday night he shared from the 18th chapter of Luke's Gospel, verses 9-14, Saturday morning at the Men's Prayer Breakfast he shared from the 3rd chapter of John's Gospel, verses 1-16, Saturday afternoon he chose a topical approach with the subject being "Integrity,", Saturday night he spoke to the youth from the 6th chapter of Ephesians, verses 1-3 and Sunday morning he used the 10th chapter of Mark's Gospel as the basis of our meditations together, sharing from verses 1-12. Following the services on Sunday morning and the delicious lunch, many of us gathered together again in the sanctuary of our church to share about the morning's message. After that Zach Hendrickson showed a DVD of the conditions in Uganda and spoke of his call to a related mission where there is a great need for children to be rescued from the slavery and bondage of a tyrant, asking us for support and inviting us to be part of that mission.

As I think about the five meetings that we as a congregation enjoyed with our guest and his family, I recall my younger days of seeing the older generation, on Sunday afternoons, discussing that which they had heard in the Sunday morning service. As a youngster I was not too drawn to it at that time, but I do remember that it was something that was important to them. They referred to it as "Kansa bohoos" which means, as I understand it: "Talking together." It allowed them opportunity to share with one another of that which they had heard from the Lord through the mouth of the preacher and through their discussion they were able to share their thoughts with one another, hear thoughts and revelations from others and perhaps they were able to ask questions of the minister concerning things that they did not clearly understand, or things that they needed further clarification on. It seemed to me back then, even as a youngster, that they shared in appreciation for the Word of the Lord for that day and wanted to take it deeper into their hearts so that it would be an assurance, a comfort and a guide in their upcoming days.

May we think on that which we have heard, may we thank the Him for His Word of grace and truth to us, may we meditate further upon the Scriptures that we heard expounded upon and may we speak about that which we have received one from Him with one another. When we do this, we can be assured that the revelation of Jesus Christ will continue to be shown to us in deeper, more meaningful and in ways that we will see more clearly our pathway in this journey of faith. For when we meditate upon His Word, human personalities disappear and it will be as it was after each sermon that was spoken, that we are left gazing in wonder at the graciousness of God as revealed in His Son, Jesus Christ, our Rescuer and Lord.

We thank the Lord for you this day

Gazing upon Jesus Christ with you,

Pastor Orval

Love Seeks Restoration Excerpt #2 Pastor Steve Wuori
He talks about the little child, the angels of the little children. In thinking of that that they have their angels, their angels, beholding always the face of the Father in heaven. There are many parents here tonight, and as you came, you endeavor to sow the seed of the Word of God into the hearts of your children, and how important it is to sow the seed. In Ecclesiastes, Solomon writes of it this way, and the reason that I have memorized it because I know that it describes me so often. Solomon writes and says, He that regardeth, or he that observeth the clouds shall not sow, and he that regardeth the wind shall not reap. And the farmers would know what we are talking about there. They live by the weather, there are sensible times to sow and sensible times to reap. And yet Solomon is saying, that if you think when you are sowing the Word of God, that you can read the cloud patterns well enough to decide if you should sow, or the winds as to reaping, then you are wrong because you will never do it. You will never sow, if you look at the clouds. And when I think of the times when I have failed to open my mouth and sow the seed of the Word, either into the hearts of my own children, or anyone else that is around me, I can say it is because I read the cloud pattern. And I did not sow because I thought it is not time to sow. Looks like it is going to rain to me. I don't know if any of you have had that same experience, but it has been mine, that I do not sow because I think it is not time. And so his Word rings loudly to me often: Don't worry about the clouds and the wind, don't worry about whether you think the conditions are right, or whether even the soil is prepared. You cannot waste that seed, sow it, sow that seed. In the book of Leviticus, the book of rules and laws, there is a very interesting verse, in the 19th chapter of Leviticus. He says don't sow mingled seed into your fields. He also says, don't wear garments mixed of linen and wool, and don't let different kind of cattle mingle together. But the part that really strikes me is that he says do not sow mingled seed into your field. And I pray that no parent here tonight is found sowing mingled seed into the hearts of their children. What is mingled seed? Mingled seed would be attempting to take that precious seed of the Word of God, that pure seed that speaks of nothing but the work of our Lord Jesus Christ and his redemptive power, and justification by faith, and mixing it with the seed of men's righteousness and men's works and man's doing. And there have been fields that have been sown in that fashion, where there was no idea what kind of fruit was going to be born. If it would be from one seed, and works righteousness would spring up, or whether it would be the good seed which would be the Word of God, where nothing but faith in Christ alone sprang up and bore fruit in the heart of the child. And so, I pray that all the parents especially would sow, not mingled, but good seed into the hearts of the children. And what does Jesus say about that seed?
