Wait on the LORD: be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart;
wait, I say, on the LORD.

Surges of Infinite Hope 12/03/2008
Good Morning, dear family!

Today's meditation was provoked by a statement that our dear brother Dennis Hilman, who is serving in South Africa in the mission field, made in a recent email to me:

"Well, time has flown and another day draws to its close. Another day lived in the wondrous grace and mercy of God...a day of both laughter and tears, a groping for meaning and the surge of infinite hope. And a night when the quarter moon hangs out there in the African sky between two brilliant stars. I have never seen such a phenomenon. Yes, all is different here, and yet how amazingly similar so often when we think of spiritual things."

Here is something for us to consider today. May it give us a "surge of infinite hope!"

KJV Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

My wife has been thrilled by the phenomenon which has been in the sky lately also. I have enclosed one of the photos that I took for her and through the experience of taking the photo for her and transferring it to our photo page on the computer, I have also experienced a greater insight and joy at what Isaiah wrote and does write in the 40th Chapter of his book. I was listening to a minister expound the Word the other day and he mentioned that it would be good to read that chapter at least once a week so that the greatness and power of God would not diminish in our errant and little minds.

t reminds me of a time I was standing on the shores of the mighty Pacific with a person who at that time had not come to understand that the ultimate joy of worship is that we worship the Person of Christ and not those things He has made. As we gazed out at the horizon with the sun setting with all its purplish and red hues and the waves roaring continually in our ears, I commented: "Amazing! How we worship the One who has made all these things.!!!" The other person looked at me and said, " I don't see it that way."

As we lift our eyes on high and behold who has created the moon and the two bright stars, may the joy of knowing and experiencing His grace and mercy empower us to continue to grope along with our eyes upon the coming of Jesus, who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. May the "surges of infinite hope" be many in our mind and heart today, to the point that others would be infected with this same "infinite hope!"

May He give us "surges of infinite hope" today!

In Christ,

He is Coming! 12/02/2008
Good Morning, Dear family.

After a wonderful time with family and friends around the Thanksgiving table, we are now entering into a new church calendar year which began with the first Sunday in Advent. Many churches at this time observe a tradition of lighting Advent candles on each of the four Sundays of Advent: 1st Sunday in Advent: Purple (Hope) signifying that He is coming; 2nd Sunday in Advent: Purple (Peace) He is still at a distance; 3rd Sunday in Advent: Pink (Faith) His arrival is close at hand; White (Love) He has come, all is fulfilled.

How long is the time period between the first Advent and the Second Advent of Jesus? Well, according to the Word of God, only He knows that time period.

KJV Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

KJV Mark 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

Those who awaited His first Advent waited many many years as they poured over the Scriptures and waited and waited and waited...

Isaiah was given this prophecy over 700 years before His first Advent.

KJV Isaiah 40:1-5 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

KJV Isaiah 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

Many years before that Abraham had received the Promise of Jesus's first Advent.

KJV Genesis 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

KJV Genesis 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

In this day when we are awaiting His return which will be in a much different fashion than His first Advent, may we be found expectantly watching and praying, not only during this season, but throughout our lives of Hope (Purple), Peace (Purple), Faith (Pink), and Love (White).

KJV Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

KJV Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

May the Lord richly bless our meditations in His Word during this time of wonder and expectation of His coming to us.

In Christ,
