Wait on the LORD: be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart;
wait, I say, on the LORD.

Praying in the Spirit 3/20/09

The promise of persistence

KJV Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Praying with the mind of the Spirit

KJV Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

"In any given day, we have to challenge our thinking in terms of how little (or how much) we actively contemplate God for who God is, and not for an answered prayer, a need, or an ongoing concern. After all, as A.W. Tozer said, the most important thing about us is our view of God".

Is the Son of God praying in me, or am I dictating to Him? Prayer is not simply getting things from God that is a most initial form of prayer; prayer is getting into perfect communion with God. If the Son of God is formed in us by regeneration, He will press forward in front of our common sense and change our attitude to the things about which we pray. - Oswald Chambers

Recently I received an email from a brother in Christ who shared with me this quote from an unknown source, "You don't know the power of prayer until you are the subject of prayer."

All of us who have been on the receiving end of other's prayers for us understand the sense of that statement, for it affirms the nature and the power of prayer that connects all the members of the body of Christ, which is joined together by the heart of the body, Jesus Christ. Even though it is helpful to know that people are praying for us, the power in prayer is due to the reality that the body is praying for other members of the body. For it is the action that is done by others in prayer that God honors and not simply the knowledge that one is being prayed for.

Let us continue to pray.

KJV Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Always in Christ,

Thank you, Orval, for sharing God's word on this website. In the verses of Luke 18:1-8 - I went to the NLT to see how they worded the word "avenge". For others like me, it is written in there to mean "give justice" or " grant justice". As I translate that in my own mind, Jesus is saying thru this parable that God will grant us mercy (quickly) if we pray and never give up our faith. He is assuming these people already believe in God.

Growing up I never understood the power of prayer.

Think of this in an earthly sense as parents with our children. As parents we really love our children from young to old (Our children will not fully realize this love until they have their own children). But as they get older if they did not talk to you as a parent or ask for help and did their own thing if they made all their own decisions - how would you feel as a parent? The parents would feel sad and they would be grieved. I know I would. (I'm reminding myself to call my own parents, who I know, love me.)

So if the way we talk to our Heavenly Father, our God, our Lord Jesus Christ, is by reading about Him (learning about Him) in His Word and praying to Him- should we do this? It says "without ceasing" in the Bible.

As a parent again, do you enjoy when your children talk with you and as you for help in decisions in their life? God does, too. He has granted you mercy and strength thru His Son, Jesus Christ. He put you on this earth and He loves you today - He wants to hear from you, so you too can learn about what our Lord Jesus Christ did on the cross for you and for me. He paid it all, for all the sins of the world, His blood that was shed has forgiven you, just believe it. He is praying for you - do you want to pray to Him who is the All-in-All - our Heavenly Father, today?

We can pray and talk with Him wherever we are, wherever we go since if we believe in Him, we have the Holy Spirit living in our hearts. The Holy Spirit will lead you in your life so you too can walk in a way that is God will be glorified.
