Wait on the LORD: be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart;
wait, I say, on the LORD.

Segment #9 Pastor Steve Wuori

Why does He use these words? a heathen is certainly an unbeliever, a publican was the collector of Roman tax revenues, a person to be despised, but yet we've already reflected onthat one publican who came to pray and whose prayer was such a beautiful prayer, that even Jesus reflected upon it Himself and said, "I tell you that that man went down to his house more justified than the other. The Pharisee, who simply thanked God that he wasn't like other man, but the publican, all he could say was, "Lord, be merciful to me a sinner." Do you despise such a one? Does this church law that concludes with the word publican, does that give us the authority to cast the publican or the heathen aside? No, we must love them. But all this establishes, after all of this long and painful journey here, is that you do not have this person as a brother or sister anymore. They're not. But still there is a desire for restoration. I am sure that there are applications to this church law, in situations where it must be used, when someone is out of control, and is causing disruptions within the family of God. There are many different ways were would pray to God that the Spirit would enlighten us in how to use this church law properly. But to anyone who have ever neglected this reading in detail and who has assumed that it is a three step way to get rid of someone, we really have to think again, because it conludes very softly and says, unto you..It started with you and him, it ends with you. He will be unto you as a heathen and a publican, an unbeliever. And verily I say unto you, whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. There we see the great power that is vested in the children of God. Whe have heard of it already at these services, the power of the keys, that power to bind and that power to loose. And surely when the Word of God is proclaimed, it will have its effect. It was spoken of today, that, from Isaiah, that the Word will never return void, but it will do that which is is intended to do. Sometimes it will bind, and sometimes it will loose. Believe that you have that power within your heart, your Christian heart, to bind and to loose.

The binding takes place when the Word of God is proclaimed. Remember Jesus said, If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin, but now they have no cloak for their sin. They found themselves naked when Jesus spoke to them. They were bound and they were loosed with the Gospe, by the precious word of reconcialiation that we also have the power to proclaim, with all the authority of heaven, and as He says, whatsoever ye bind in heaven shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

" Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Those precious words that we often reflect upon when we know that when two or three are gathered together in prayer, in the name of Jesus, we know there is great power that comes there, to the point where Jesus says, If you agree on earth, two of you, as anything touching what you're going to ask, it shall be done by my Father which is in heaven. There is great power in prayer. There is great power in two believing hearts knit together in a husband and a wife knit together and praying together for themselves, for their children, for their families, for anyone.

There is great power in that and Jesus speaks of that power. But now we come to the matter of us. We have dealt with the fault of the other and we have been instruced to go and tell them of that fault and follow this through. But now after listening to all of that, Peter says to Jesus. Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Til seven times? And how many times have we found that we have become impatient with someone who cannot seem to get it together? They can't seem to overcome that which grips them. They are in continual need of forgiveness. They make mistakes a lot. And maybe those mistakes are directed at us and in this instance Peter is saying, my brother, if he sins against me, how often should I forgive him? When does the clock run out on the forgiveness we apply? Seven times worth? Peter had just heard Jesus speak of the three steps that were taken in establishing whether the man is a brother, that being in fellowship or not in fellowship.
